Gameplan

The Esper colors are usually associated with slow and durdly control but thanks to Capenna, we now get to apply a decent amount of pressure!

First off, the Connive ability is better than advertised and quite the powerful ability when paired with a two-drop that people probably forgot about since Eldraine. Faerie Vandal seems like a card the Obscura family wants as Connive is much easier to trigger than the double-draw archetype in Eldraine. With the decrease in Vanishing Verse, I expect this card to actually be a cheap threat that can be flashed in and get super swoll (buff). It even curves right into Raffine, Scheming Seer. Raffine is as good as advertised and feels like it can be played in any archetype wether it be aggro or control. It's also a big enough body that makes it extremely hard to swing through in combat.

Another card I was high on during spoiler season was Obscura Interceptor and I haven't been disappointed yet. This card isn't Venser, the Sojourner as Venser can hit a resolved permanent including lands and this can only interact with things on the stack. This card is quite the tempo play in a standard where people are jamming big clunky threats. If a control deck tries to cast Farewell or a Doomskar, we can bounce the spell back to buy time and potentially seal the game there on the spot. The floor of this card is a 3/1 lifelink threat. This means it even has play in aggro matchups. The card is a bit risky when you're topdecking, but it's nice as this card also doesn't counter a spell so being able to send a Void Rend or Koma, Cosmos Serpent back to an opponent's hand will feel amazing.

Conclusion

The tempo deck is an absolute house with amazing threats that synergize very nicely with each other while being able to jam Neon Dynasty all-star Kaito Shizuki to keep the Connive machine going. This deck can shift gears pretty quick and that's what I love about it, and this is only a week one build. Give it time and I or somebody else will build an even better version!
