The Power of Pauper: All Are One

Howdy folks! It's time yet again for another edition of The Power of Pauper! I'm your host, Joe Dyer, and this week we're going to be taking a look at a sweet Kindred style deck that exists in the format. No it's not Elves, it's Slivers! In addition to that we've got two Challenges to cover.

Without further ado, let's dive right in!

All Will Be One

Pauper has always had decks that focus on specific creature types. We have everything from Goblins to Elves in the format, but what about one of the game's most interesting and fun creature types in Slivers? Slivers were first introduced during the Tempest block and have been brought back time and time again due to their popularity in formats such as Commander.

Slivers are creatures that all have abilities that they either share with all Slivers or with Slivers you control (a subset of Slivers introduced in Magic 2014 and beyond only affected Slivers you control). They compound in this sense, getting better in multiples. In Pauper this allows for an interesting type of aggressive strategy that can get on the board rather quickly and have exceptionally big creatures that present a strong clock.

Beyond just pumping the team of Slivers, there are Slivers that grant additional abilities that are powerful and relevant in games from evasive abilities like Flying to abilities like Flanking. In addition tutor cards like Lead the Stampede and Winding Way provide for ways for the Slivers player to refill their hand after deploying their threats.

This is a super interesting and fun deck and has a lot of really powerful things it can do. If I had to build a deck focusing on a specific creature type, this would definitely be it because Slivers are just so much fun.

Pauper Challenge 11/11

The first Challenge event of the weekend was the Saturday event. Due to no data we don't know how many players were in this event.

You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here. There was no data published for this event, so let's look at the Top 8.

Really solidly straightforward list here. I love the miser Chainer's Edict in the main deck here. Gearseeker Serpent is pretty sweet as well.

In Second Place we had Golgari Gardens.

This list is pretty sweet. I am digging cards like Spinning Darkness and Defile. Definitely super fun list.

Further down the Top 8 we had Jeskai Ephemerate.

Lot of really cool things this deck is doing. Cleansing Wildfire is sweet ramp for these kinds of decks. Union of the Third Path is really sweet too.

At the bottom of the Top 8 we had Azorius Affinity.

Very straightforward list here and it's quite powerful. This version of the deck is pretty good for sure.

Really clean and powerful deck. I always love seeing Boomerang in this deck. It's so much fun to see it as a playable Pauper card.

In Second Place we had Familiars.

Loading Indicator

Very interesting to see a version of this deck without Murmuring Mystic as that has been one of the deck's big win conditions for a while now, but Gn42 is a master at the deck so I am willing to believe in their math and deck construction.

Also in this Top 8 we had Boros Ephemerate.

This list is super sweet. It's got a lot of powerful things and cards it's playing from Ephemerate to Prismatic Strands. Really fun looking list.

Further down the Top 8 we had Izzet Terror.

This is super interesting as well. Frantic Inventory is really neat. Also copies of Ghostfire in the sideboard as a way to get around Blue Elemental Blast and friends is wildly interesting.
