Single Scoop: Jeskai Runes (Standard, Magic Arena)
This episode's deck plays a little bit like an auras deck but with the ability to lightly combo off with the right cards on board!
Gameplan
The deck utilizes the new cards from Kaldheim in Runes
These cards on their own don't look like much but when paired with Runeforge Champion, all the runes are just one generic mana and a way for us to keep going through our deck. This card is even better when paired with Birgi, God of Storytelling as you'll be able to keep generating a red mana to play runes. With the runes and Fight as One or Defiant Strike, we're able to keep generating mana when we target our Goldspan Dragon. All this mana and cycling through our deck is pretty sweet when paired with one of the best cards to come out of Kaldheim, Showdown of the Skalds.
When Skalds is on chapter two or three, we'll for the most part be killing our opponents in one shot or getting close to it. As we cycle through our deck from casting Runes and Defiant Strike, we'll just make one very big threat and then go swinging. We're pretty much putting all of our eggs into one basket and praying that the opponent doesn't have interaction.
Conclusion
The deck was fun when it got to do it's thing but so many decks have interaction or kill you with Embercleave before you finish setting up so for right now, this deck is just a for funsies deck. I have to assume that a Bo3 version will be able to have more fight in certain match ups but for the Bo1 ladder, it seems a bit too slow. Either way, we got to try it and it felt so good going off when we did! Thanks for watching and we'll see you at the next episode.
