Single Scoop: 8 Lhurgoyfs (Historic, Magic Arena)

It's been awhile since we've seen a new Lhurgoyf type. Tarmogoyf arrived on MTGArena thanks to Historic Anthologies but now it's time for Urborg Lhurgoyf to join the mix!

If I'm being completely honest, Urborg Lhurgoyf is quite the drop off from Tarmogoyf. It's really a three drop on the curve as you want to kicker in order to get the self mill. The Urborg Lhurgoyf only checks for creatures in your graveyard thus meaning Graveyard hate will obliterate us but we're hoping to fill our own graveyard up for value. This is quite nice as we're trying to mill cards like Tenacious Underdog and Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger. Of course Kroxa eating up our own graveyard is a nonbo, but it's still nice to know that we can reoccur it along with Kolaghan's Command to help us grind out our opponents.

It is wild to see Liliana of the Veil on MTGArena but at the same time, it's been a blast playing with her in Historic and Explorer. The card is definitely still a powerhouse and welcomed into Historic but should be used with caution as a ton of decks are happy to throw away cards from their hand. Otherwise, the decks packing Liliana feel like Jund of 2013 in modern! 

Conclusion

The deck packs a ton of Lhurgoyfs but the new Lhurgoyf is pretty bad, but it is funny to have an additional set of Lhurgoyfs to hit the meta with. Urborg Lhurgoyf is just too weak as it only checks for creatures in YOUR graveyard. They could've totally just made it check all graveyards and that would've at least made it playable. For now, this was just a pet project of mine to make 8 goyf work. Sadly, you're probably better off just playing a more traditional Jund or Sultai midrange deck and leave Urborg Lhurgoyf out of your lists.
