Marvel's Spider-Man Removal List
This is a list of all the removal in Marvel's Spider-Man, divided into permanent creature removal, temporary creature removal (such as bounce, tap, and falter effects), non-creature removal, and off-battlefield removal (hand, stack, and graveyard).
Notes:
- Arachne, Psionic Weaver is not listed as off-battlefield removal because opponents will often be able to pay an additional mana in Limited games.
- Spider-Punk can neutralize your opponent's countermagic but is not listed as off-battlefield removal because countermagic is not commonly played in Limited formats.
- J. Jonah Jameson is listed as permanent creature removal because it can make an opponent's creature unable to block for the rest of the game.
- Maximum Carnage is listed as permanent creature removal because it forces your opponents' creatures to attack on their next turn. (Be careful: if you cast it during your first main phase, it does the same to your creatures.)
- Lizard, Connors's Curse is listed as permanent creature removal because it can turn an opposing bomb into "just" a 4/4 with no abilities.
Including cards with hybrid mana costs, White and Green have two permanent creature removal spells each at Common, while Black and Red have three each:
- White: Spectacular Tactics and Web Up
- Black: Pumpkin Bombardment, Scorpion's Sting, and Venom's Hunger
- Red: Pumpkin Bombardment, Shock, and Electro's Bolt
- Green: Scout the City and Kapow!
Meanwhile, Blue only has Spider-Man No More at Common. In additional, all colors can play Steel Wrecking Ball. Despite having more removal than any color other than Black, Red may also want to run Steel Wrecking Ball, not just because it can be used to destroy artifacts but because Red has few options for dealing with creatures with five toughness, and none at Common.
Unusually, the only mass removal in the set is Black (Sandman's Quicksand at Uncommon and Villainous Wrath at Rare), so you don't have to worry about overextending against an opponent who isn't playing Black. And since both of them cost two Black mana (unless you're paying the Mayhem cost for Sandman's Quicksand), they won't usually be run by opponents that are just splashing Black.
