Historic 101: Superfriends On A Boat

Thanks to Kaladesh, our superfriends can now hop on a vehicle courtesy of Heart of Kiran. This is pretty major as it allows us to protect our planeswalkers a little better from those darn creatures who try to use that darn Attack Phase! Kaladesh brought us some sweet new toys so here's the list I came up with:

Loading Indicator

Gameplan

The obvious plan is to overwhelm our opponents with planeswalkers and run away with a ton of value and potentially playing enough passives (I miss you t3feri) to lock opponents out. The difference is Kaladesh's arrival really helps boost the superfriends archetype by now giving us a boat/spaceship or whatever you wanna call it.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

This card doesn't seem like much but its the much needed defender and potential aggression for our Superfriends deck. Before, we didn't have many early plays to set up our planeswalkers outside of removal but sometimes that just isn't enough. Heart of Kiran helps us get around that by being a protector while also giving us the means to kill opposing three drop planeswalkers like Narset, Parter of Veils! Outside of the sweet little space ship/boat in Heart  of Kiran, we got a new planeswalker to add to the group!

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Chandra, Torch of Defiance is a solid planeswalker as it can be card draw+burn, ramp, and removal. The cost of RR is a bit scary so I can't force too many copies. The card is fighting Narset for space which is a mark against it. Although Narset doesn't ramp as much, she does gain life and her -2 is able to draw and hit planeswalkers.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

This card is another tool our Superfriends needed as Gruul and Red deck have always been prominent and they're loaded with haste threats. Thanks to Authority of the Consuls, we're able to slow their game plan down significantly and gain life along the way. Not only that, the card is a sweet card to slow down the Neoform combo.

Conclusion

We were able to take down an event but the issue lies in our sideboard being too narrow. We're ready for a few specific matches but with only 15 cards, we didn't have enough things to respect Control. I would normally say that we ignore Control decks but recently there has been an uptick in popularity in Azorius Control. If you're running into a ton of Control decks like that, it's time to start looking to Thought Distortion again. The card is the perfect way to get them to empty their hand. I don't mean one or two copies either. I'm thinking we should be packing three to four copies as it's one of the matches we can't really win. Otherwise, with a playset of Grafdigger's Cage and Authority of the Consuls, I could see us slowing down decks like goblins and other aggro strategies!

I really do love my planeswalkers so I'll definitely try to force this deck on the ladder. Be sure to tune into my streams on Twitch as we tune the deck on the go! I've also gotten a ton of decklist submissions through email and I want to say that it's pretty rad that you're all willing to share your lists with me. I'll be looking over them as I hope to turn a few of them into videos. Thanks for watching and supporting all of my content <3
