Commander Clash S7 E3: More Commander 2019! (Chainer vs. K'rrik vs. Marisi vs. Sevinne)

Welcome back to Commander Clash! We continue our exploration of the new Commander 2019 cards by building around four more of the new legendary creatures from the set. But even more exciting is that I can announce a special guest for this episode: the return of Jennifer aka Mrs Mulligan! Jennifer's partner happens to share the name of one of the commanders we wanted to showcase: K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth. And on top of that, K'rrik's card is exactly the type of card Jennifer is known for: Black, powerful commanders that do broken things! We couldn't have a more perfect episode to bring Jennifer back! So with that in mind, let's see what we've got:

  • Andrew plays a graveyard-focused Spellslinger Control list looking to grind out value over the late game with Sevinne, the Chronoclasm
  • Crim returns to his comfort zone -- the cold embrace of the Graveyard -- adding some big spoonfuls of Discard to maximize the value of Chainer, Nightmare Adept
  • Jennifer looks to do her signature broken things with Black, burning through her life total for sweet ramp with K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth
  • Tomer plays an Equipment deck with a Political twist, smashing faces for value while goading his opponents to hit each other with Marisi, Breaker of the Coil

Graveyard strategies are well represented this week! Let's see how it pans out! But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

The relative absense of dedicated Graveyard decks left our group complacent about adding proper GY hate. But much like Legacy, eventually a Graveyard deck shows up to an unprepared meta and just dominates the landscape. I think this episode was the group's wakeup call. We probably will overcorrect this issue for the next few episodes and, like Legacy Dredge players, it'll probably be a good idea for Graveyard players to lay low for a while ... until the meta is ripe again.

Or maybe we don't add any GY hate at all and get run over yet again next episode. Who knows.

Next Week: Throne of Eldraine!

Yes, it's time for some ELD goodness! There are a TON of legendary creatures to build around -- entire cycles even! -- and we haven't even done the Brawl commanders either! Lots of stuff to look forward to, so check again next week!
