Against the Odds: 2+ Hours of Ancient Cornucopia Gaining Life to Fall Asleep To
Hello everyone, and welcome to another edition of Against the Odds. This week, we're finding out how many Ancient Cornucopias it takes to gain us so much life that we can never die to damage in Standard. While I've seen a few decks playing Ancient Cornucopia in Standard to gain a bit of life here and there, our deck is a bit different. Our real goal is to make a token copy of Ancient Cornucopia with something like Three Steps Ahead, Tamiyo, Compleated Sage, or Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant, which then allows us to copy it with Worldwalker Helm every turn. This will eventually lead to us having 20, 30, or more Ancient Cornucopias on the battlefield. At this point, every spell we cast will gain us an absurd amount of life—enough to essentially Fog any damage our opponent can deal to us—making it more or less impossible for us to lose to damage. As for winning the game, we mostly trust that our opponent will eventually give up or run out of time, although we can also kill by cracking some of our hundreds of Map tokens to grow a creatureland into a lethal one-shot-kill threat! I'll warn you now: it's going to be a long one, so buckle up for some absurd Ancient Cornucopia lifegain action!
Against the Odds: Ancient Cornucopias
Wrap-Up
Record-wise, we surprisingly went 8-6 with the deck, giving us a solid winning record. Overall, the deck is hilarious, and it wins more than it should. We had several games where we ended up with 30 or more Ancient Cornucopias on the battlefield, which eventually led to our opponent simply giving up. Around half of our matches didn't even finish, with our opponent either running out of time or simply salty roping once we started to gain a silly amount of life. While it did take us nearly four hours to play the five matches that made up the video, it was totally worth it!
