Orzhov Knights (Standard, Magic Arena)
This week's episode of more best-of-one fun is going to require a knight in shining armor!
Gameplan
The knights gameplan is dancing in between an aggressive and midrange gameplan as Knight of Grace,Knight of Malice, and Adanto Vanguard can lead to some aggressive starts as they're difficult to deal with but the only difference between knights in Dominaria and knights now is we have two sweet new cards to increase the power level of the deck...
Gideon makes it so we have some disgusting starts that helps us play around sweeper effects as the knights of old would usually fold to a Cry of the Caranarium but Gideon goes around that and a ton of other sorcery speed mass sweeper effects. Sorin also helps us as it helps us grind our opponents out of answers as our threats are problematic enough the first time around. If they have to deal with our threats a second time, it becomes much more difficult.
Thanks to #MTGWAR we also got another versatile answer in Prison Realm
Prison Realm gives us a much needed cheap way to answer a problematic creature or planeswalker while also helping us fix our draw as Knights don't have that many ways to manipulate their draws. I think the card is sweet but it is a slight concern that Teferi, Time Raveler can just bounce it so make sure you sequence these with care!
Conclusion
The deck went the whole way and got us a clean 7-0. The deck definitely still has some holes in it. There were games where it just curved out perfectly and felt strong, but when you're not curving it feels like we're too slow and don't have a strong enough game to go super late. If it were up to me, I would add a few Vraska's Contempt or try to make this deck more aggressive with Legion's Landing and etc. Overall, the deck was fun though. I do recommend this for those who want to make the Knight tribal work. It definitely feels better with the addition of the two new planeswalkers.
See you at the next one!
