Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The biggest finance news this week is Dominaria, specifically the fact that the set hasn't really dropped in price since its release. Back during prerelease weekend a complete set was around $340 and today a complete set is still $340. While most cards have crashed, a handful of Standard staple mythics including Karn, Scion of Urza, Lyra Dawnbringer, and Teferi, Hero of Dominaria have increased significantly in price. The end result is both Dominaria and Standard are expensive. However, it's not time to worry yet — there have been many reports of local game stores being sold out of Dominaria. As more Dominaria is printed, prices will normalize and deck prices will likely trend down. If you haven't bought the expensive Dominaria mythics yet, the best thing to do is wait another month or two.
In Modern, Mox Opal is back up over $100 after being under $40 just over a year ago. Other staples like Tarmogoyf and Noble Hierarch creeping up as well. Hopefully the theme of the next Masters set is Modern.
Finally, on Magic Online Walking Ballista is over 30 tix after being 8 tix back in January. With rotation coming in just a few short months, I'd be looking to sell my copies now and save the profits to build a deck in post-rotation Standard. While Pro Tour Dominaria might keep prices up for the next couple of weeks, the focus will shift to Magic 2019 and the team Pro Tour this summer and prices of rotating cards will quickly drop towards their floor in both digital and paper form.
