Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |

This week, the biggest finance new is Core Set 2020. While the set isn't officially out in paper yet, it has been live on Magic Online and Magic Arena for almost a week and early results are causing big price movement. Chandra, Awakened Inferno leads the way, jumping from $20 to $42 in the past couple of days, in part because the planeswalker is a great finisher and in part because Elementals are the hottest Core Set 2020 deck in Standard. Speaking of Elementals, their newfound popularity has lead to Cavalier of Thorns, Omnath, Locus of the Roil, and Chandra, Acolyte of Flame all posting big gains as well this week, not to mention Risen Reef which increased a massive 573% to $2.50 as the engine of the deck. If you're playing Standard in the near future, expect to see a lot of players trying to figure out Elementals; the deck might be legit.
Last week Wizards announced some big changes to Pauper, with all cards printed at common in paper or on Magic Online being legal in the format (when before Magic Online alone determined legality). This dumped some potentially powerful new cards in the format. Desert (up 101% to $9.11 this week) offers a repeatable answer to the small creatures which dominate the common-only format and is in relatively low supply. The original is from Arabian Nights, and while the land has been reprinted multiple times, the reprintings include an old promo, Timeshifted, and From the Vault: all low-supply reprint avenues. If Desert takes off in pauper the price could remain high, although with Wizards new-found focus on the format, more Pauper-focused reprints are likely in the future.
Last but not least we have some Commander movement with Storage Matrix being bought out this week. The reason seems to be Urza, Lord High Artificer, which plays extremely well with artifacts that can be turned off by tapping them like Winter Orb, Static Orb, and Storage Matrix. While Storage Matrix isn't quite the Urza staple as the Orbs, it still shows up in nearly 1/4th of Urza, Lord High Artificer decks according to EDHRec, which is more than enough demand for the artifact to see a price increase.
