Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
Easily the biggest finance news of the week is the rise of Liliana, the Last Hope, who not only broke some price records on Magic Online—at one point being worth 57 tix during prerelease events—but in the past day jumped to a TCGplayer-mid of just under $50. At first I thought this could be a fluke, but I checked around other major sites, and they were all sold out at $35. So far she hasn't put up any results, although she is showing up as a four-of in quite a few decks. Over the long term, it's hard to imagine that she can maintain $50+ in a stacked set like Eldritch Moon, but a huge Pro Tour showing next weekend could push the baseline even higher in the short term. I would lean towards selling sometime in the next two weeks.
For the rest of Standard, the finance news this week isn't so much big, but broad. Instead of any massive spikes, we saw a mass adjustment based on the first week of Eldritch Moon Standard. Most of the biggest losers are from GW Tokens with Gideon, Ally of (em>Zendikar</em) dropping 5% and Secure the Wastes dropping 13%. On the other hand, many Spirits and Zombies cards jumped between 6% and 18%. The one exception is Crush of Tentacles, which increased 18% to $1.78 in the past day after being one of the most hyped cards on day one of the SCG Open in Baltimore as part of a combo deck looking to loop Crush of Tentacles every turn with Den Protector.
In Modern, it seems that the buyout brigade realized that Future Sight block is comparatively low in supply. The Conflagrate buyout (up 651% to $3.73) makes sense; it's a key card in Dredge and Dredge is sneakily a tier one Modern deck, coming in as the fourth most played deck in the format. On the other hand, the Fortune Thief (up 267% to $4.00) buyout makes no sense. Not only is the card unplayable in competitive formats, it's only fringe in Commander and very reprintable in a supplemental product.
