Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in the world of Magic finance, the big news is the Murders at Karlov Manor surveil lands. Last week we discussed the possibility these cards were underrated and how they are seeing a surprising amount of play in Modern. Well, this week the cards saw a big price increase across the board. Two weeks ago you could snag surveil lands for around $3. Now many are in the $7 to $10 range. I wouldn't expect another big jump from here, although it is possible the best of the surveil lands continue to slowly tick up until they hit $15 or even $20 like the best Triomes or Innistrad lands.
Meanwhile in Modern, Trickbind jumped this week, increasing 97% to over $17 after showing up in a couple of Dimir Mill decks in Modern. Somehow the rare is from Time Spiral - released more than 15 years ago - and has never been reprinted at all. This relative scarcity means it doesn't take a very big increase in demand for prices to spike, which is what we are seeing here. Personally I'd be looking to sell my copies now while prices are high because it's only a matter of time until Wizards reprints the split second Stifle and its price crashes back down near bulk thanks to the increased supply.
Finally in some funnier news, the Innistrad printing of Tree of Redemption increased 50% to $8 this week thanks to The Pride of Hull Clade (showcase Dossier) Commander decks. You might remember a few years ago a lot of memes and anger about Tree of Redemption being printed at mythic in Masters 25, although in hindsight it really wasn't that bad. Out of the 15 mythics printed in the set, currently six are worth less than Tree of Redemption. It turns out that having uses in popular commander decks is the most important thing for a card's price in 2024, which turns Tree of Redemption from meme to "not really that bad." If you want a Tree of Redemption to finish off your The Pride of Hull Clade (showcase Dossier) deck, look for the Masters printing, which hasn't increased in price like the Innistrad version and can still be snagged for around $5.
