Deck Primer / Description
Classic control shell with a little ramp, feel free to adjust to your preference. Tapping out is not ideal and try to keep hands with early interaction. This deck is made for the "Hell Queue." In other words expect tough matches against powerful decks. This has a good matchup against other control decks, and can do well against combo as well.
In combo and aggro matchups, prioritize early interaction. Against midrange, ramp, and control counterspells and hand attack are key. Card draw is less necessary in Atraxa shells because of your commander, but still important. Always prioritize interaction over card draw, unless necessary.
Do not rely on casting your commander, they are a finisher and often opponents will hold onto removal and counters specifically for her. Going shields down is typically ill-advised, especially against Ux decks, so do only as a last resort or if you've run them out of cards.
There is technically a combo in this deck. Oracle of the Alpha will put Timetwister into your deck, and with Narset, Parter of Veils you will draw 7 new cards and your opponent will lose their hand. This works the same with Notion Thief except you draw 14 cards total! Assemble the Team, Solve the Equation, and Grim Tutor can help make this happen, but don't rely on it. Only go for it if you have extra mana, naturally draw Oracle of the Alpha, and have a tutor or two in your hand.
This is not a budget deck. If you don't have enough wild cards, the main issue will be your mana base. Replacing with tap lands could work but missing the first few turns of tempo can make or break the game against the more powerful decks you would likely face. If you have limited wild cards and still want to build the deck, prioritize the lands, as the interaction can be easily replaced with uncommons. Mana Drain is easily the best card in this deck, so pick it up when you can. Then board wipes, then finally the threats. Atraxa is enough, frankly, but any random planeswalkers and solid uncommon disrupting creatures are fine replacements. My honest recommendation is to build a different deck as wasting your rares to build half of this deck only to lose to extremely tuned and streamlined decks will feel really bad. Rusko, Clockmaker is a very solid control commander, and Malcolm, Alluring Scoundrel is a tempo deck just as annoying as Atraxa, Grand Unifier.
