Deck Primer / Description

This deck gets off to a rather slow and grindy start, because nearly all of its lands enter the battlefield already tapped (thereby preventing you from using them until your following turn). However, once you establish your mana base, you'll find yourself churning out an intimidating slew of huge creatures and/or burning off your opponent's face with a massively powered Expansion // Explosion. Another surprise finisher is Sylvan Awakening, where your vast array of lands becomes a host of indestructible Elemental creatures.

To get off to a faster start, replace both Temple of Mystery with Breeding Pool, and both Temple of Abandon with Stomping Ground. This will drive up the price of the deck to over $70 USD, but it's a good investment if your playgroup consists of fast-paced combo or aggro players. Having access to green, blue and red mana even just one turn earlier can save you from a quick defeat.

Besides the Gates and the cards that clearly leverage off them (for example, Gates Ablaze and Gatebreaker Ram), the rest of the deck is quite flexible. Ideally, you'd have outlets for the large amounts of mana that you'll be producing late in the game. You might want to replace 1 Gate Colossus and 1 Archway Angel with 2 Dream Trawler, as this is a hard-to-remove creature that puts constant pressure on your opponent. Or you can sink your mana into a large Voracious Hydra, or an immense Hydroid Krasis if your budget permits it. If your opponents play a lot of burn spells or run lots of aggressive creatures, Lyra Dawnbringer can help.

For a cheaper removal spell than Banishing Light, you can try Baffling End, Declaration in Stone, Seal Away, or Silkwrap.

Feel free to experiment with any cards that aren't on this list; the important thing is to bring out as many Gates as possible, and have cards that benefit from them.
