Deck Primer / Description
With this $50 budget commander deck, you'll have your friends fuming at how many answers you have. Are they playing MLD? Take out a Terra Eternal. Are they playing Artifacts? Make all their activated abilities cost 2 less. Are they playing flashback? Not anymore, with Ashes of the Abhorrent. Did they even want to cast their commander in the first place? Not if you cheat out Nevermore first. Another part of this package is Necropotence, for when you want to keep your hand full, and don't care about your life total. Misdirection is even included, which is a poor man's Force of Will. It can make other counter spells target it, instead of whatever you wanted to cast, effectively being a counterspell in its own right. Also useful for stealing a Time Warp.
This deck's name is in reference to the Doomsday package, as well as the large toolbox package this deck provides. This deck can easily overpower an entire pod with stax alone with cards such as Nevermore, Arcane Laboratory, Solemnity, Terra Eternal, Virulent Plague, and Suppression Field. These takes care of uncounterable commanders, storm players, proliferate/infect decks, Mass Land Destruction decks, Token decks, and Artifact decks respectively. Is there a commander you need to get rid of but don't want to risk coming back? Make him a blue wall that only has defender! Do you just need to get rid of someone? Exile it with stasis snare! Oblivion Ring can exile even more!
The main two win conditions being Doomsday and Commander Damage/Infect, you'll need to be able to cast spells freely. This deck features a large array of counterspells to help with that, along with a counter-baiting Silence to protect a Doomsday pile, or casting Zur. When winning with Doomsday, you'll be using Unearth piles. Piles like Gitaxion Probe-> Predict -> Lab Man -> Unearth -> Opt are the type of piles you would make. You could also win via casting Laboratory Maniac, then casting Demonic Consultation naming a random card that isn't in the deck. You'll mill your entire deck into exile. All that's left to do is draw a card and win! Also possible to do at an opponents end step for a surprise victory.
In order to win via Commander damage, the correct route is usually to pick up Diplomatic Immunity first, and put it on Zur. From there, pick up Shielded by Faith. This will give Zur shroud and indestructible, making him near impossible to get rid of. After that, get either Ethereal Armor or Empyrial Armor (Keeping your hand full with Necropotence) and then Phyresis. After that, the world is your oyster.
This deck's main weakness is definitely aggro decks, though to counteract this, DoomBox Zur has a lot of removal spells, and cheat-out-able removal enchantments as well. One to note is Planar Collapse, which is a searchable boardwipe! Just make sure Zur is indestructible before you make it go off.
One last important thing to note. Phyrexian Unlife and Solemnity make you indestructible! Just be careful not to let either of them get destroyed when you're at 0 life however.
In summary, if you don't know what to do to solve a bad situation, swing with Zur and look for an answer, it's probably in there.
EDIT: UMA Happened, so Lab Man went hella down in price. Just fixed the list a bit.
