Kaladesh has been fully spoiled. This week we received our last planeswalker, Dovin Baan, and the exciting return of Expeditions in Kaladesh dubbed Masterpiece Series: Kaladesh Inventions. The biggest financial news of the week is the impending release of Kaladesh. While there isn't really enough data to talk about the price movement of individual cards, what we can to is discuss the set as a whole. As of today, the average price of a Kaladesh mythic is extremely high at $10.32, while the average rare is a pedestrian $1.02. As for the Inventions, they are currently averaging $86.90. While this doesn't mean much right now, we'll check in again next week to see just how far prices drop in the coming days.
In Modern, there are two big winners. The first is Brushland, which was bought out again this week. Most versions of the painland are now somewhere between $20 and $30 on the back of Bant Eldrazi. If you need copies to finish your deck and aren't concerned about condition, you can still find some played copies for under $10 on TCGplayer. The second Modern winner is Platinum Emperion (up 16% to $9.58), which is getting a ton of hype because it combos with Madcap Experiment. While I'm a little skeptical that the combo will be good enough for tournament play, it sounds like a great Against the Odds combo. I expect a lot of casual players to build decks around the synergy, which is probably enough to keep the price of the unique Scars of Mirrodin mythic.
Finally, on Magic Online we are already seeing the Modern Masters 2017 announcement having a major effect, with many Modern staples like Liliana of the Veil, Scalding Tarn, Voice of Resurgence and Ancestral Vision dropping around 20% on the week. If you have copies that you aren't using on Magic Online or in paper, it's a good idea to hedge your bets by cashing out now and planning to rebuy during the Modern Masters 2017 low. It wouldn't be surprising to see many of the reprinted cards lose up to half of their value, although the cream of the crop will likely recover over the next couple years.
