Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The big finance news this week is Ixalan. The full spoiler came out on Friday and at first glance, the set has a lot more high value cards than usual with four mythics (and even two rares) in the $14 through $20 range, and a few more cards around $10. Of course prices will drop as supply hits the market, and while we'll have a full EV breakdown next week, the important thing to remember is that there are no Masterpieces in Ixalan; rares and mythics will be worth a bit more (maybe 25% more) compared to sets that have Masterpieces eating up some of the value. Keep this in mind as you are picking up your cards from the set.
As for older formats, things are pretty normal. In Legacy, Reserved List cards continue to increase, while in Modern, Commander 2017 is still driving price movement with the Vampire Necropolis Regent up 44% to about $4.50, and the Wizard uncommon Sage of Fables increasing 75% to about $3.50. At this point is seems that Commander might be the biggest market mover in all of Magic, which means when Commander 2018 releases, make doubly sure to get your upgrades early.
Finally, on Magic Online, there was some concern that prices would crash thanks to the Magic Arena announcement, but this doesn't seem to be the case. While prices are down a little, at least so far the change is small compared to other panic sales we've seen in the past. The general feeling seems to be that Magic Online is safe for at least two years, so while it might be correct to sell eventually, at this point the best thing to do is probably wait until we have more information about how Magic Arena will actually work before deciding your next move.
