Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in the world of Magic finance most of the big news is tied to Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoilers. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the biggest winner of the week are the best Werewolves from Magic's past as players look to build Commander decks around the new Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Werewolves lead by Tovolar, Dire Overlord (showcase). Huntmaster of the Fells jumped 156% to $28, Mayor of Avabruck 178% to $12 and Ulrich of the Krallenhorde 289% to $11. While it's clearly too late to pick up Werewolves, the same thing is likely to happen against with Vampires in a couple of months once Innistrad: Crimson Vow spoilers start. If possible, snag the Vampires you need now, because the good ones are likely to get much more expensive.
The Adventures in the Forgotten Realms creatureland Den of the Bugbear is also on the rise, shooting up 64% to $4 this week based on increasing play all the way back to Modern in various red-based aggro decks. The entire cycle of Forgotten Realms creaturelands seems inexpensive based on the amount of play it sees, with most just a dollar or two. Creaturelands have traditionally been very playable across formats, and coming into play untapped on the first two turns of the game is a big deal in older formats. I'd be tempted to pick up a playset of the entire cycle now while prices are low, it wouldn't be a surprise to see prices continue to increase once Adventures in the Forgotten Realms goes out of print.
Last but not least we have Torpor Orb which jumped 24% to $20. The artifact has become a fairly popular sideboard card in Modern shutting down the evoke Elementals from Modern Horizons 2, Snapcaster Mage, Stoneforge Mystic and more, which is driving the price increase. While it's possible Torpor Orb increases more in the short term, if you have copies you're not using I'd look to sell or trade them away while prices are high. The New Phyrexian artifact has never been reprint, and the more its price increases the more likely it shows up in something like Double Master or another supplemental set in the near future, which would likely drop the price down near $5.
