Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
It's been another quiet week in the finance world, although things are likely to change in a few days with Pro Tour Ixalan kicking off on Friday. In Standard, the two biggest winners are Ixalan sleepers Treasure Map (up 24% to $3.71) and Sunbird's Invocation (up 37% to $1.03). Both cards have proven to be more tournament-worthy than most people initially thought, with Treasure Map being a key piece to some builds of Tokens and various Marionette Master decks, while Sunbird's Invocation is showing up alongside Approach of the Second Sun in some unique builds. Both cards are cheap enough that they can continue to grow if they see tournament play in Standard.
In Modern, we're seeing some cards from the Five-Color Humans deck that took down last week's SCG Open ticking up in price. This includes Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and even Kitesail Freebooter, but the biggest winner is Meddling Mage, which is a four-of in the main deck of Collins Mullen's build. Chris Pikula's invitational card jumped 20% to just under $8 on the performance. All the cards from the list should be watched moving forward as there's a non-zero chance that the deck is the next big thing in Modern and more cards spike as a result.
Finally, we have one oddball this week with the FNM Promo Cabal Coffers showing up among the 20 most-viewed cards on the site. While the promo did double in price a couple of weeks ago, I haven't been able to find any recent tournament play. After doing a bit of digging, it seems that FNM Cabal Coffers was initially bought out in Europe, which got MTG Finance types talking about the card here in the US, which lead to it being bought out here as well.
