Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance, the biggest gainer comes from Duskmourn Commander: Seance Board (extended)! The mana rock, which gained 592% this week to $9, has quickly emerged as a staple in Demon decks, highlighted by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls - the most popular new legend from Duskmourn - but has been getting some hype as an upgrade for spellslinger decks as well. Colorless cards tend to have a leg up in Commander since, at least in theory, they can go in any deck, which could lead to Seance Board (extended) creeping even higher, although at this point seeing heavy play outside of Demons is mostly speculative. I'd probably just hold and wait and see how things shake out.
Meanwhile in Modern, Lotus Bloom is on the rise, gaining between 36% and 53% depending on the printing to around $10 this week. Since the Nadu banning, Mono-Blue Belcher has emerged as a legit tier option in Modern, and Lotus Bloom is one of the key cards in the deck (to the point that the deck plays Whir of Invention specifically to tutor it out). The card has been as high as $20 in the past, although this was before it was reprinted in Time Spiral Remastered. Assuming the Belcher deck is real, the price could continue to climb, although sooner or later another reprint will happen. Last time Lotus Bloom's price dropped all the way down to $2, so these gains are likely temporary.
Finally, checking in on Duskmourn itself, Enduring Innocence (extended) was the big winner this week, nearly doubling up to $10. While the sheep glimmer does see a bit of play in Standard in decks like Azorius Enchantments, the biggest reason for the price increase is Pioneer, where Enduring Innocence (extended) has revitalized Selesnya Company as an archetype and brought it back to tier status. As a rare, it's hard to imagine the price going too much higher in the short term, although the card is very good in some Commander decks, which does increase its ceiling and makes me feel fairly safe holding copies.
