Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week was fairly quiet on the finance front. In Standard, a handful of key cards from the top decks ticked up about 25%, including Hazoret the Fervent (from Ramunap Red), Anointed Procession (from Abzan/Esper Tokens), and Botanical Sanctum (from various Energy decks). With rotation nearly a year away and only a small set coming this winter, it's a pretty good bet that most of these increases will stick over the winter. This means if you need any of these Standard staples to complete your decks, you might as well just bite the bullet and pick them up now.
As for Ixalan itself, while individual cards are bouncing around a bit, overall the total set price has been fairly stable, dropping just $10 (or 3.5%) on the week. Most likely the set will continue to drop at a slow rate for the next couple of months, which means unless you are trying to guess at sleepers with Pro Tour Ixalan on the horizon, it's probably better to keep waiting before picking up the cards you need. Cards hyped during presales like Carnage Tyrant, Growing Rites of Itlimoc, and Jace, Cunning Castaway are not at their floor yet.
As for Modern, the biggest winner of the week is Quicksilver Fountain (up 56% to $4). The artifact is basically the world's slowest and strangest Blood Moon, but is catching on as a sideboard card against Tron, especially for artifact-based decks that can tutor it up with Whir of Invention. At this point Mirrodin is pretty old and low in supply, which means if Quicksilver Fountain ever breaks out on the GP stage, it could easily double up yet again into the $10 range.
