This week all eyes are on Standard with Ixalan's release on Friday and the first big Standard tournament of the season happening over the weekend. The combination of rotation and new cards entering the format lead to some pretty major price changes with The Scarab God climbing 57% to nearly $40 and claiming the title of most expensive card in Standard, while Tezzeret the Schemer more than doubled in price to $9 after posting some early Magic Online results.
As for Ixalan itself, most of the biggest winners are blue cards, with Search for Azcanta climbing 15% to $5.65 and Hostage Taker up 31% to $7.27, with exile-based removal like Settle the Wreckage and Vraska's Contempt along with a handful of Dinosaurs creeping up as well. This said, as a whole the set is trending down in value, which is normal as people start cracking boxes and supply enters the market.
Finally, I wanted to take a minute to mention the Ixalan Buy a Box Booster Packs that are being given away with the purchase of a box instead of the traditional buy a box promos. I cracked two myself and the less valuable of the two had about $16 in value, while the better one had $30. While I'm sure there's some amount of variance involved, I've also seen pictures of people opening foil Fatal Pushes which are $35 all by themselves, some I'm not sure my experience was outside the norm. As such, it seems that these seeded boosters contain enough value that if you purchase a booster box that comes with one, you'll come out ahead in value on average, which is a pretty big incentive to get a box soon (before your LGS runs out of the promotional packs).
