Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The big financial news this week is the release of Iconic Masters. Now that the cards are on the market, prices are tumbling fast, with the total value of an Iconic Masters set dropping nearly 16% in just the past seven days. Considering that the set is being sold at Target and WalMart (a first for a Masters set), this isn't really a surprise. There seems to be a ton of sealed product on the market. When you combine this with the fact that many of the expensive cards have high price tags thanks to low supply rather than high demand, the stage is set for some huge price drops. With another Masters set on the way in just over three months, prices will likely continue to fall over the holiday season.
Iconic Masters hit Magic Online Friday as well, and the expected value is horrible. Opening the $7 booster will give you an average of 1.47 tix in cards. As a result, if you are looking to get in some drafts, unless you can win more than 72% of the time (which is roughly equivalent to being the greatest limited player of all time), you are better off choosing the phantom option and then using the tix you save to pick up whatever Iconic Masters singles you need to finish your decks.
Finally in Standard, more cards are down than up for the week. We've reached a dead spot for the format with players focused on Iconic Masters and Unstable, not to mention real life responsibilities over the holiday season. Expect things to stay mostly quiet and trend down a bit over the next six weeks until Rivals of Ixalan spoilers start on the first of the year.
