Battlebond was spoiled in its entirely this past week, and many are dubbing it Commander Masters (at normal pack price!). There are tons of new multiplayer cards, new Legendaries/Commanders, and valuable reprints. It was going to be hard to follow-up Dominaria, but so far it looks like Wizards is succeeding. Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
Against all odds, the biggest finance news this week are coin flip cards. The printing of Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom and Okaun, Eye of Chaos in Battlebond give the coinflip archetype its first ever Commanders, and people seem to be hyped. Krark's Thumb shot up more than 400% to $10, Frenetic Efreet jumped from $0.50 to almost $15, and Chance Encounter went from $4 to $15. While these prices will probably come down a bit in coming weeks, they are also unlikely to go back to their pre-spike lows. If you want to build Zndrsplt/Okaun, you'll probably end up paying bit for for some key cards no matter when you buy.
The big Modern winner this week is Hall of the Bandit Lord (up 90% to $30) which is a four-of in the newest take on the All-In Vizier Druid Combo deck. While a buyout pushed the price to new highs, it's worth pointing out that the land has been steadily increasing in price for years now. At $30 it's a prime target for reprinting in a future Masters set or other supplemental product. If you don't absolutely need copies, you're best off waiting. Hall of the Bandit Lord's price is as much about low supply as high demand, so once it gets reprinted it will lose a ton of value.
Finally, in Standard, Sorcerous Spyglass shot up to $5 this week—a 250% increase—as a way to combat all of the powerful planeswalkers and Vehicles near the top of the format. If you happened to crack some Ixalan boxes, it's worth digging through your bulk for extras; selling or trading them away could be a good way to pay for a Battlebond draft or two. On the other hand, the card dodges rotation in September and figures to remain a good sideboard option over the next 18 months of Standard, so keeping a couple for future Standard sideboards is a fine plan as well.
