Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The biggest finance news this week is the aftermath of Pro Tour Amonkhet, with the cards that performed well filling the list of biggest winners. While the increases are nowhere near as big as last weekend during the event, the key cards for Marvel (Chandra, Flamecaller, Aetherworks Marvel), Zombies (Dread Wanderer, Metallic Mimic) and Sam Black's Abzan Tokens list (Anointed Procession) all increased between 17% and 47% on the week. Based on this weekend's Grand Prix events, it seems like the hype for all the non-Marvel decks might be short lived, so it's probably best to sell your Zombies and Anointed Processions into the hype.
In Modern, the story is once again Devoted Druid which is now a $12 common thanks to its synergy with Vizier of Remedies. The combo has revitalized Abzan Company which has went from close to unplayed to a top ten deck in Modern in just the past couple of weeks. The biggest risk here is a reprinting in a supplemental product. It's also possible that the metagame adjusts to the combo, but at this point, Abzan Company seems likely to be at least a second-tier archetype for next few months.
Finally, a quick Magic Online reminder: The new redemption schedule is about to take effect, with Kaladesh and Aether Revolt redemption ending in a couple of weeks (June 7). This will likely have a significant impact on the prices of cards from these sets, since a significant chunk of demand will suddenly disappear and cards will stop leaving the system. As such, if you've been thinking of redeeming a set, do it soon, and if you have a bunch of unused Kaladesh block cards in your collection, you might want to think of selling them while redemption is still open.
