Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive
|
|
This week's biggest financial news is Nahiri, the Harbinger, which is up another 61 percent to nearly $35 on the back of being one of the most talked about cards at this weekend's SCG Modern Open. This is the second week in a row she tops the winners list, and it was only 10 days ago that you could pick up copies for $13. While I expect that she'll decline back to $20-$25 in coming months, the eternal demand means she'll unlikely be $13 again anytime soon. I'd sell extra copies, but if you need some to play with, you might have to bite the bullet and pay the new price.
Speaking of Shadows over Innistrad in older formats, Tireless Tracker saw play in Legacy, Modern and Standard at this weekend's Magic Online Championship (MOCS), while current Pro Tour Champion Steve Rubin (and friends) brought a Mono-White Humans deck built around Thalia's Lieutenant to the SCG Modern Open. While this doesn't mean very much yet, both of these cards are worth tracking. If they develop into Modern or Legacy staples, they could end up being great buys at current prices.
Two other big winners this week are The Great Aurora (up 67 percent to $1.76), which is a key part of a Seasons Past deck championed by Sam Black, and Orzhov Pontiff (up 73 percent to $14.71), which looks more like a buyout based on a lacking supply. While Orzhov Pontiff does see play in Modern in various Chord of Calling and Flickerwisp strategies, most of the time it's a one-of in the 75, making it unlikely that the double-up is based primarily on organic demand.
Finally, remember that Eternal Masters spoilers will start to trickle out next week, which could mean big movement for Legacy staples that miss out on being reprinted. This is especially true on Magic Online, where a huge Legacy Festival tournament with a first place prize of over 3,000 tix, was announced at the MOCS Championship this week. Personally I'm taking a second look at the Vintage Masters dual lands; they could see a big uptick in demand over the next couple of months.
