Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance it's all about Tarkir: Dragonstorm. Leading the way was Tiamat, the second-most popular Dragon commander. While the new mythic Dracogenesis as an easy inclusion in most Dragon Commander decks, it's especially good with Tiamat where it offers what is essentially a one-card combo kill. You play Dracogenesis so you can play all your Dragons for free, play Tiamat from the command zone to tutor up five Dragons and play them for free. There are several combinations that should win you the game. Perhaps the most straight forward is to tutor up Twinflame Tyrant for double damage, Terror of the Peaks and Scourge of Valkas so Dragons deal damage as they enter, Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund for haste and finally Stormscale Scion to flood the board with massive Dragons, which should be enough to win the game on the spot!
Speaking of Dragons, Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm more than doubled up this week to $14. There was an expectation that the cloning Dragon would show up in the Temur Dragon precon deck from Tarkir: Dragonstorm, but it turns out that it was excluded because, according to Wizards, they were afraid it would overshadow the new legends in the deck. I wouldn't be surprised to see Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm contiune to rise over the next few weeks. Alongside being one of the most popular Dragon commanders, it's also the most obvious upgrade for any of the new Dragon commanders in its colors.
Finally in Modern, Deathrite Shaman doubled up this week to between $10 and $15. Tomorrow is the next ban list update, and Deathrite Shaman has been a popular choice for a potential unban candidate. While I do expect more unbans in Modern eventually, I wouldn't be surprised if this announcement was more focused on removing problems like Underworld Breach and possibly another energy card from the format. If Deathrite Shaman does get unbanned it should be a Modern staple and the sky is the limit.
