Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week was a quiet one in the world of Magic finance. In Modern the big news is that we're still seeing a reset from the Lurrus of the Dream-Den banning with three-drops that were pushed out of the format ticking up in price. Ranger-Captain of Eos was the biggest winner, increasing 38% to just under $36, while [[Liliana of the Veil] (up 5% to $75) and Seasoned Pyromancer (up 6% to $53) followed close behind.
Meanwhile, Mox Amber - widely considered the worst Mox ever printed - increased 6% on the week to $42, a meteoric rise from its $7 while in Standard and from $20 as recently as last year. This seems to mostly be because of a couple of Modern decks that are increasing in popularity now that Lurrus is gone, including the return of Neobrand which is using the artifact as a replacement for Simian Spirit Guide as a way to generate mana after it draws its entire deck with Griselbrand as early as turn two. The new build of Neobrand uses Thrasta, Tempest's Roar as a finisher, which is around $1 a copy at the moment and could be a decent pick up in case the deck takes off. The Dinosaur is currently tied with Titania, Protector of Argoth for the second cheapest mythic from Modern Horizons 2 and could easily shoot up to $5 or $10 if it continues to see play.
Finally, a word of warning about the New Capenna triomes: they are currently super overpriced. Presales have them listed at around $20 and considering that the Ikoria triomes and Guilds of Ravnica shocklands were $5 to $10 while in Standard, the New Capenna lands will drop a lot once the set releases. There's very little upside in ordering them now; wait until a couple of weeks after the New Capenna comes out and you should be able to snag all you need for half their current prices.
