Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance was fairly quiet, perhaps the calm before the storm.. err.. Dragonstorm coming along with our return to Tarkir spoilers which kick off on Tuesday. The biggest gainer was Onslaught Aggravated Assault (borderless Anime), which gained more that 153% to nearly $30, although I'm not exactly sure why the extra combat enchantment spiked. It is a popular addition to Redshift, Rocketeer Chief from Aetherdrift, which could help explain some of the interest, although it might just be hype for more Dragons coming, since some of the easiest ways to go infinite with Aggravated Assault (borderless Anime) involve dragons like Savage Ventmaw or Cavern-Hoard Dragon. Presumably a lot of people will be building Dragon decks in Commander once Tarkir: Dragonstorm releases, and this might just be #mtgfinance trying to get ahead of the hype. The good news is that you can still snag the Explorers of Ixalan or Enchanting Tales reprints for around $12, although these versions have been slowly ticking up as well.
Meanwhile in Modern, Vengevine is once again on the rise thanks to the resurgence of Hollow One decks. While several reprints should keep the price from getting too out of hand, the four-drop is once again over $20 after being around $8 at the start of the year.
Finally, Druid payoff Gilt-Leaf Archdruid gained 70% this week to $6. Somehow the Morningtide rare has never really been reprinted, discounting a run on the now retired The List, and some Commander players (like me!) love the idea of stealing all of their opponent's lands. We've also seen several Druids printed in the last couple of sets, which is likely driving interest in Gilt-Leaf Archdruid. This said, we've seen Gilt-Leaf Archdruid spike to $15 or $20 multiple times in the past before slowly falling back down to just a couple of bucks. I wouldn't be surprised to see it tick up even higher short term, but I'd be surprised if the new higher price sticks over the long-haul.
