Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
The biggest finance news this week was the leak of three chase cards from Hour of Devastation, which were immediately put up for presale at super high prices. Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh is powerful, but it's almost unheard of for a mythic from a Masterpiece set to maintain a $30 price tag. Meanwhile, Samut, the Tested is generating some hype as the worst planeswalker since Tibalt, the Fiend-Blooded, but still started off at $15 before dropping to $10. Please don't preorder now; we still have weeks before the set releases, and these prices are so high you're not locking in any savings by being early.
As for cards currently in print, Modern saw a few increases based on last week's Grand Prix, with Street Wraith (now a $10, two-print uncommon) and Ethersworn Canonist (which is of increasing importance as a hoser to both Storm and Living End) being the two biggest winners in the 30% range. Both seem safe from reprintings at the moment, but are likely inclusions for a future edition of Modern Masters.
Finally on Magic Online, apart from a reminder that Kaladesh Block redemptions end this Wednesday, the big news is the impact 1v1 Commander is having on prices. Onslaught fetches are up across the board, as are staples from Baral decks including Treachery, Mox Diamond, and Misdirection. While the number of players in 1v1 Commander leagues is small compared to other formats, this increase in demand for previously unused cards is moving the market and is worth watching moving forward.
