This week, our biggest finance news comes from Core Set 2021, with facewalker Teferi, Master of Time on the rise. After preselling for around $30, Teferi, Master of Time is now $60 according to TCG-mid and selling for over $40 on Ebay. There are reasons to believe that our new Teferi could remain one of (if not the) most expensive cards legal in Standard. If you look at recent sets, the mythics that have the highest price tags are Commander all-stars like The Great Henge that still have some playability in Standard. Teferi, Master of Time takes this concept to the extreme, being at or near the top of the list of Core Set 2021 cards for both Standard and Commander (and possibly even having fringe demand for Modern and/or Pioneer). While prices for Core Set 2021 are currently still inflated due to a lack of supply, don't expect Teferi, Master of Time to ever be cheap; the planeswalker is in a rarified group of cards that is in demand for both competitive constructed events and more casual Commander tables, which should keep it's price high — perhaps even at the top of the list of most expensive Standard-legal cards — for the next year or more.
Otherwise, this week was fairly quiet on the finance front. The Tempest rare Bounty Hunter is once again on the rise, shooting up from around $7 to about $12.50 thanks mostly to Commander. In the past year or so we've received two different legends that care about bounty counters in Chevill, Bane of Monsters and Mathas, Fiend Seeker. As the only other card in all of Magic that can put a bounty count on a creature, Bounty Hunter has gone from unplayed to in-demand for two different Commander decks in a relatively short amount of time, which keeps its price ticking up as players purchase the copies to build Chevill or Mathas. Not being on the Reserved List means a reprint is always possible though. As such, the safe bet is to sell or trade away your extra copies to players who need them. Once Bounty Hunter is reprinted it should fall back towards being a bulk rare; its current price is mostly driven by lack of supply.
Finally this week the original printing of Stroke of Genius doubled in price from around $3 to $6, which is mostly notable because the card has multiple Commander precon reprintings which haven't changed in price much at all. It's likely Zaxara, the Exemplary — the second most popular commander from Commander 2020 — is fueling the demand, although from a more meta-perspective, Stroke of Genius offers a good reminder of the premium that is often placed on original printings, especially those with the old border. If you just need a copy for your deck you can pick up a Commander 2014 or Commander 2015 version for about half of the Urza's Saga printing. But if you want the original, expect to pay quite a bit more.
