Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive
The big financial news of the week was the buyout of Nimbus Maze, which jumped from $7.60 all the way up to $31.50. Unfortunately, it's hard to point to a single reason why this happened. While being a Future Sight rare in low supply is surely a big part of it, I couldn't find a single decklist featuring the land. In theory, it could be the Grove of the Burnwillows of UW or Bant Eldrazi, but needing both an Island and a Plains to work makes it tricky for a deck that likes to run a lot of painlands.
In Standard, most of the price changes this week were small. Some of the cards that increased this week may be foreshadowing bigger things to come with the release of Eldritch Moon. The list of biggest movers includes several Eldrazi, Relentless Dead (up 5% to $6.49), Arlinn Kord (up 4% to $12.49), and Rattlechains (up 6% to $0.89). The common theme here is tribes that get support in Eldritch Moon. I expect to see further movement from these cards, alongside other tribe members over the next couple of weeks as previews roll out. I'm especially interested in Zombies, since they are likely to be a big part of the set thanks to their association with Liliana.
As far as Eldritch Moon itself, all three cards available for preorders so far seem massively overpriced. I think Emrakul, the Promised End is great for Standard, but I'm not sure it can stick at $25. While it's not impossible, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger is only at $13 and likely more playable in older formats. Ulrich of the Krallenhorde would be a bulk mythic if it weren't for the long-time desire for a Legendary Werewolf, and even being a Werewolf isn't going to keep it at anywhere close to $12. Finally, Coax from the Blind Eternities suffers from being unplayable in Commander since they don't use sideboards.
