Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
While it feels weird to write this, the biggest financial news of the week is pretty clearly Mill in Standard. While the archetype hasn't put up any finishes yet, rumor has it that some pro players will be releasing Standard mill lists built around Fraying Sanity this coming week. As a result, both Fraying Sanity (up 325% to $6) and Startled Awake (up 261% to $7) spiked this week. While it would be sweet to see mill break Standard, considering Startled Awake rotates in a couple months, it's probably wise to sell your copies now and spend the money on cards for post-rotation Standard.
Meanwhile in Modern, Solemnity is making its presence felt with its lock partner Phyrexian Unlife and infinite damage combo friend Geralf's Messenger, both doubling in price this week. While I'm probably biased, I think the deck is really solid, and I wouldn't be that surprised to see one or both cards stick near their current price until they are eventually reprinted in a Modern Masters, especially Phyrexian Unlife, which has additional demand as a key piece of Ad Nauseam.
The other big winner in Modern this week was Training Grounds (which nearly doubled to $14). While this might look like casual demand, and probably is in part thanks to the enchantment being a popular combo enabler, the major reason for the movement was a Magic-League list which used Training Grounds to enable the Pili-Pala combo. In a world with less deck lists from the mothership, it's going to be even more important to track lists from lesser known tournaments. These lists seem primed to become more significant for both gameplay and finance with less official lists being released.
