Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in the world of Magic finance, the biggest winner was Animation Module with the artifact shooting up a massive 400% to $5. While Animation Module occasionally sees fringe Modern play in Hardened Scales, the real reason for the spike is Murders at Karlov Manor, specifically the new uncommon Crime Novelist making it easy to go infinite with the card. If you have Module, Crime Novelist, and a sacrifice outlet, you can sacrifice an artifact, make a red mana with Crime Novelist and use that mana to pay for Animation Module to make a 1/1 Servo artifact creature token which you can then sacrifice to start the loop again. If your sac outlet is Phyrexian Altar or Ashnod's Altar (retro), you make infinite mana. If you have a Blood Artist effect on the battlefield, you'll just straight up win the game!
Meanwhile in Standard, the price of mana is on the rise with several popular lands ranging from Spara's Headquarters (showcase) (up 20% to $19), Deathcap Glade (up 14% to $21) and Plaza of Heroes (up 14% to $10) ticking up this week. It wasn't that long ago that you could get the Innistrad lands and Triomes for under $10, but now you'll be paying closer to $20! Whether you should buy now or wait is an interesting question. Both the Triomes and Innistrad lands rotate in September, but both land cycles are also super heavily played in Commander, which means prices likely won't crash too hard at rotation. If you need them to play Standard, snag them now, otherwise I'd lean towards waiting for rotation. While you probably won't save a ton, you should save a little bit at least.
Finally, Muxus, Goblin Grandee is on the rise. A couple of weeks ago you could snag copies for around $5, today the cheapest version is $12 with the Jumpstart 2022 version closer to $20. Goblins have been on the upswing in Legacy recently thanks to the printing of Broadside Bombardiers in Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander, and it seems that Muxus is the primary beneficiary of the increase. Toss in the possibility that the six-drop could come to Modern at some point in a Modern Horizons set and its Commander play, and I wouldn't be surprise to see Muxus, Goblin Grandee continue to slowly creep up until it's eventually reprinted.
