Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance is all about Lorwyn Eclipsed in Commander, with a ton of cards that work with the set’s themes spiking in price. Rumbleweed led the way, gaining more than 80% to $6, as a popular upgrade to the new Elementals Commander precon. This also caused Flamekin Harbinger (up 179% to $9) and Animar, Soul of Elements (up more than 200% to around $50) to jump.
Grave Sifter also gained nearly 2,000% this week, climbing to around $15 depending on the printing. While the card is at its best in Elementals thanks to its creature type—and is an obvious inclusion alongside Ashling, the Limitless (borderless) due to the “sacrifice Elementals” theme—it’s also solid in other tribal decks. For example, the new Lorwyn Eclipsed Elves care about the graveyard, making Grave Sifter a strong option even though it isn’t technically an Elf itself.
Of course, the Blight-themed Commander precon also got in on the action. Generous Patron finally has a home thanks to popular Blight commanders being able to put -1/-1 counters on opponents’ creatures, which led to it spiking by hundreds of%, although you can still snag copies for around $5 thanks to a number of reprints. Obelisk Spider is similar, gaining nearly 500%, but as an uncommon—even with this huge jump—it’s still around $5. Finally, the old Eventide uncommon Quillspike gained 732% to $10 as a way to remove counters from your creatures.
