Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive

Emrakul, the Promised End Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger Torrential Gearhulk

Clearly the biggest news of the week was the surprise bannings of a bunch of cards in both Standard and Modern, highlighted by Smuggler's Copter and Emrakul, the Promised End getting the axe. As a result, both of these cards have started to drop in value. If you are waiting to pick up copies for casual play or Modern, the floor is still yet to come. Smuggler's Copter should end up in the $2-$3 range, and Emrakul, the Promised End will be below $10 before too long.

On the other hand, some cards benefited from the bannings. Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger jumped 35% to over $21 as a replacement for Emrakul, the Promised End in Aetherworks Marvel decks. Torrential Gearhulk, meanwhile, saw a 16% increase on the assumption that the format will be a bit more friendly for control without Emrakul, the Promised End ending games on turn four.

Finally, in Modern, the bannings of Gitaxian Probe and Golgari Grave-Troll haven't had a significant impact on the price of other cards, although Surgical Extraction is down on the week (but this may just be the price normalizing after a big increase last week). On the other hand, if you are looking for some treasure in your bulk binder, make sure to go digging for Chancellor of the Annex. It was a bulk rare only a couple of months ago, but after a breakout performance in Legacy RB Reanimator at GP Louisville, the Angel is currently $16. I'd definitely look to sell my copies now—while Chancellor of the Annex won't drop all the way back to bulk, falling back into the $5–$10 range seems likely over the next few weeks.
