Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week was another slow one in the world of Magic finance as everyone waits for Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoilers to start on Thursday. Archon of Cruelty (up 33% to just over $8) was one of the biggest winners of the week. The Modern Horizons 2 mythic has quickly emerged as the best reanimation target in Modern and even sees a bit of play in Legacy reanimator while also showing up in discard or graveyard-based Commander decks. While the card is super powerful, it's typically a one-of in decks that play it, which should keep its price from getting too out of hand.
Perhaps the biggest news of the past week was the announcement of 2022 products and a new series of Secret Lair drops. While it's too early to speculate much about 2022 (other than to note that there will be a ton of places to reprint cards with another Double Masters and Commander Legends on the way), one of the new Secret Lair drops in specific has some financial relevance. The drop features old-border old-wording versions of Teferi, Time Raveler (planeswalker stamp), Karn, the Great Creator, and Dack Fayden (retro). Currently Dack Fayden (retro) is sitting at $24, Teferi, Time Raveler (planeswalker stamp) $17, and Karn, the Great Creator $13 (total retail value about $54), which makes the $30 drop a great deal if you need these cards. While I wouldn't expect the older versions of the cards to crash in price, the new supply could keep them from increasing much in the near future.
Finally, Sigarda's Aid is on the rise, with the enchantment shooting up from about $5 to $12 over the past few weeks. While this is partly because Hammer Time has risen to the top of the Modern format, there's additional Commander demand as well as Sigarda's Aid being a popular upgrade for Galea, Kindler of Hope decks. If you need copies, one sneaky path to picking them up is the Wyleth, Soul of Steel (precon) Commander Legends precon deck. You can find the decks on Ebay for somewhere between $14 and $15. While the deck doesn't have a ton of high value cards outside of Sigarda's Aid itself, you will end up with a playable deck and snag a few reprints worth a couple of bucks like Swords to Plowshares, Wear // Tear, Generous Gift, Swiftfoot Boots, and Sol Ring.
