Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week the finance world was fairly quiet as everyone waits for Guilds of Ravnica spoilers and rotation. In Standard, the major theme was cards from Core Set 2019 and rotating mythics like Liliana, Death's Majesty and The Scarab God dropping in price while Ixalan and Dominaria mythics—which could be in line for an increase in play after rotation—ticking up slightly. While it's hard to say with certainty which cards will break out after rotation, in general, it's a good plan to pick up the cards you think you might need now because once they start posting post-rotation results, prices can increase quickly.
Meanwhile Commander 2018 is still moving prices in casual formats. Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni jumped 46% to about $6.50, presumably based on hype for the Ninja tribe thanks to Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow. The original creature-type switcher Conspiracy increased 27% to $9.50. Even considering these price increases, things have slowed down considerably on the Commander 2018 front and will be even slower starting next week as the focus shifts to Guilds of Ravnica.
Finally, in Modern we saw Privileged Position increase 11% on the week to over $23 based on a new build of Worship decks that looks to use Privileged Position as a way to protect Worship and strengthen the lock. Whether the deck is real or its finish was a fluke remains to be seen; right now it has a single finish in a Modern Challenge on Magic Online. But with Collective Brutality on a bit of a downswing, the time might be right for Worship (and apparently Privileged Position) to shine in the format.
