Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance all the biggest news comes from Standard. Last week the biggest winner was Innkeeper's Talent (which just so happened to gain another 49% this week to $20) and this week the biggest gainer was another class enchantment in Caretaker's Talent, which shot up 389% to just over $9. While Caretaker's Talent looks looks like a card for token decks, it might actually be a control card, with decks like UW and Boros Control using it as a card advantage engine alongside token producers like Deduce, Beza, the Bounding Spring, Fountainport, and Mirrex. As we've seen with Innkeeper's Talent, there could still be room for Caretaker's Talent to grow. Considering what we've seen over the last two weeks, I'd keep an eye on the other rare members of the Talent cycle. It seems possible that sooner or later a card like Scavenger's Talent or Artist's Talent will find a home and spike in price.
Meanwhile Monstrous Rage jumped 154% this week to $6, which is an absurdly high price for an uncommon. The pump spell is seeing play all the way back to Modern and has developed into a Standard staple in decks like Rakdos Fling, Gruul Prowess, and Boros Mice. If you opened some Wilds of Eldraine, make sure to go back and pull Monstrous Rage from your bulk.
Finally, Beza, the Bounding Spring doubled up to $12 this week. The four-drop is seeing play in a bunch of different midrange and control decks as a way to stabilize against aggro, which is especially important in Bloomburrow Standard since there are several aggro deck that can win the game as early as turn three. Beza, the Bounding Spring's enter the battlefield ability makes it the perfect way to catch up against aggro, gaining back four life while also likely adding three blockers to the battlefield. While the card is strong, it's hard to see it going too much higher. If you look at other popular in Standard mythics that don't see much play in other formats, they tend to top out in the $10 to $15 range, which is right about where Beza sits after this week's increase.
