Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance was fairly quiet, with most of the gainers being Dragons that synergize with new Tarkir: Dragonstorm cards. In Standard, two of the best preexisting Dragons ticked up about 10% in Twinflame Tyrant and Terror of the Peaks. It's worth noting that both have been mentioned as potential combo pieces for a Dracogenesis combo deck in Standard, although whether such a deck is actually competitive remains to be seen.
Meanwhile in Commander, Coalition Victory jumped 55% to $8 this week after Wizards announced that they'll be releasing more bracket and game changer info on April 22, along with the list of cards that are coming off the ban list and moving onto the game changer list, which many assume will include Coalition Victory. Just how deep Wizards goes on the unbannings is anyone's guess. I wouldn't be surprised to see a huge number of cards come off the ban list and become game changers, although it's also possible we only see a handful of smaller changes. Either way, expect some big price shifts around announcement day.
Finally, checking in on Tarkir: Dragonstorm itself, prices are trending down as we near release day. Many of the most expensive cards in the set saw major drops this week, including Mox Jasper (serialized) (down 42% to $43), Ugin, Eye of the Storms (down 18% to $69), and Stormscale Scion and Taigam, Master Opportunist (both which which lost around 50% to about $10). This is normal, although also a good reminder why it's typically not a good idea to buy cards during presales because prices are usually very inflated.
