Vintage 101: Eternal Weekend Vintage 2025
Howdy folks! It's time yet again for another edition of Vintage 101! I'm your host, Joe Dyer, and this week we're going to talking a little bit about Eternal Weekend Europe 2025's Vintage Champs (what we can see at least), and of course some Challenges from last week. Yes, I was on vacation last week due to some travel.
Without further ado, let's dive right in!
Vintage Eternal Weekend Europe 2025
So Eternal Weekend Europe happened over a week ago, and I had somewhat hoped we'd get some slightly more information than what we've gotten on it, but alas that does not seem to be the case. Let's discuss what we do know about this event. Held in Lucca, Italy by the TO 4Seasons, this event had around 233 players in it.
Here's where things do get a little wonky. Due to the smaller number of players, the TO ran the entire event using the Magic Companion app. What does this mean? Well, for starters, it means that literally no data for this event will ever exist or materialize. Companion simply does not keep this information at all anywhere saved. The only reason it was used in this fashion was because it was not big enough to force them to run it using MTGMelee.
Honestly, I am sort of amazed that we are running the main event that each Legacy and Vintage gets primarily once a year (for all three EW events) in Companion and not in some place that allows people to see any decklists. At bare minimum we have the Top 8 decklists but no real Top 8 breakdown besides some of the lists. This is the information we have directly confirmed about the Top 8 participants in this event.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Esper Lurrus | 1st | Franco Cicchini |
| PO | Top 8 | Shawn Chen |
| Raker Shops | Top 8 | Javier David |
| Doomsday | Top 8 | Eric Ratkowski |
| Lurrus Breach | Top 8 | Luca Bastianelli |
| PO | Top 8 | David Cioffini |
| Dredge | Top 8 | Tuomas Ronkainen |
| Lurrus Breach | Top 8 | Jorgen Sorli |
At the very least out of this we do know the winner of the event in Franco Cicchini on Esper Lurrus, so congrats to him on his win!

The rest of the Top 8 decklists can be found here. Unfortunately I do wish there was more info about this event available. It is rather unfortunate that we can't get any data for this event or even published decklists. I would recommend in the future for this TO to consider doing more with this event if they are going to continue running Eternal Weekend.
Vintage Challenge 32 12/4/2025
The first Challenge event of this past week was the Thursday event. This event had 40 players in it thanks to the MTGO Vintage Discord.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Raker Shops was the most-played deck of the event, and it did have a positive win rate overall. Dimir Lurrus had a very strong win rate, as did Jewel Shops. Dredge did super poorly.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Raker Shops | 1st | boytriton |
| Raker Shops | 2nd | _Batutinha_ |
| Sphere Shops | 3rd | Scooby_Snacks |
| Dimir Lurrus | 4th | O_danielakos |
| Dimir Lurrus | 5th | Univerce |
| Jewel Shops | 6th | Ignotus97 |
| Dimir Lurrus | 7th | bcs8995 |
| Raker Shops | 8th | Terminus0 |
Lot of Shops and Lurrus, but at the end of the event it was 2x Raker Shops decks in the finals.

The differences between these two aren't very major, mostly sideboard slots and a few main deck changes. The overall game plan is still very much the same.
Vintage Challenge 32 12/5/2025
The second Challenge event of this past week was the Friday event. This event had 33 players in it thanks to the MTGO Vintage Discord.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Initiative was the most played deck, but its win rate was lower than 50% despite two Top 8s. Sphere Shops looked quite good here. Dredge again suffered,
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Sphere Shops | 1st | crK |
| Dimir Lurrus | 2nd | jake-upLVT |
| Initiative | 3rd | LasVegasChaos |
| Raker Shops | 4th | HoldTheElle |
| Initiative | 5th | Bawer |
| Oath | 6th | wongdeck |
| Sphere Shops | 7th | _Shatun_ |
| Countervine | 8th | karatedom |
Fairly interesting Top 8. At the end of the event, it was Sphere Shops that won.

Pretty clean and straightforward list. Four Null Rod shops are great when all your major threats work through it without issue.
In Second Place, we had Dimir Lurrus.

Oh man Stock Up and Mana Drain in a non-Breach type list? Pretty sweet to see. The singleton Daze is really great too.
Vintage Challenge 32 12/6/2025
The third Challenge event of this past week was the Saturday event. This event had 45 players in it thanks to the MTGO Vintage Discord.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Raker Shops was the most-played deck of the event, and it had a pretty good win rate. Lurrus Breach and PO both did very well. This event literally had no Dredge in it whatsoever. Oath and Sphere Shops also looked good.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Lurrus Breach | 1st | _thelizardking |
| Initiative | 2nd | LasVegasChaos |
| Doomsday | 3rd | Enrichetta |
| Lurrus PO | 4th | Kenzaburo |
| Raker Shops | 5th | novaschin22 |
| Raker Shops | 6th | TomJubarte |
| Raker Shops | 7th | musasabi |
| Dimir Lurrus | 8th | O_danielakos |
A lot of Raker, but the event was won by Lurrus Breach.

I do like the Drain Gifts package, and Stock Up only makes the whole thing much better. What's really interesting here is the three copies of Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student in the sideboard.
In Second Place, we had Initiative.

A lot of weird splits here, like the 3/1 split of Swords to Plowshares. I again don't like more than two Void Mirror total in this deck.
Vintage Challenge 32 12/7/2025
The final Challenge event of this past week was the Sunday event. This event had 32 players in it thanks to the MTGO Vintage Discord.
You can find all of the decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Raker Shops was the most played deck, and it looked great, as did Initiative. Oath also looked quite good, but mostly all the decks here singletons outside of a few.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Raker Shops | 1st | musasabi |
| Initiative | 2nd | yoshiwata |
| Oath | 3rd | Ecoscuro |
| Initiative | 4th | Selfeisek |
| Raker Shops | 5th | Bezerra_da_Silva |
| Initiative | 6th | LasVegasChaos |
| Oops! All Spells | 7th | medvedev |
| Raker Shops | 8th | TomJubarte |
Quite a bit of Initiative, but it was Raker Shops that won.

I do like me some Lodestone Golem action. Seems quite good, even if it does impact you casting Fleshraker and Tezzeret.
In Second Place we had Initiative.

Ooh yeah, I like this build quite a bit. March of Otherworldly Light is such a great card.
