This Week in Legacy: Eternal Weekend Europe 2025

Howdy folks! It's time yet again for another edition of This Week in Legacy! I'm your host, Joe Dyer, and this week we're going to be taking a look at the results of Eternal Weekend Europe 2025! Yes, I know this article is a full week after the actual event (and I know I took last week off for vacation), but a lot of that is rooted in the fact that the decklists took most of last week to get loaded to MTGMelee (more on that later) and the data sheet was done before I went on vacation to the grand land of Ithaca, New York. Rest assured, this event is still worth covering, as are the other MTGO Challenges from last week.

Without further ado, let's dive right in!

Eternal Weekend Europe 2025 Legacy Champs

Eternal Weekend Europe took place over a week ago in Lucca, Italy. Organized by 4Seasons, this event is the largest post-ban event yet since the banning of Entomb. This event also did take a while to get everything together. I had to work directly with 4Seasons to get the data required to put out a data sheet on this one, as they did not collect decklists using MTGMelee. The lists were eventually published via MTGMelee, but it did take a while to get done. I am really thankful for 4Seasons and their support of our project however to get all of this taken care of.

This event had a whopping 965 players in it, which is some amazing data to get out of our first large post-ban Eternal Weekend.

You can find all of the decklists here and the data sheet here.

By far at a near 13% of the metagame the most played deck was Izzet Tempo. Right behind that at 10.26% was Dimir Tempo. Izzet actually had a just below 50% win rate with its popularity, while Dimir had a strong 52.33% non-mirror win rate. Other popular decks include Mystic Forge, Blue Post, Eldrazi, and Beans. In fact, there was a lot of Beans in the event, and Beans did reasonably well overall.

Overall though, this looks like a great event. Legacy looks pretty great, and especially, it seemed like there was a lot of solid gameplay to be had all around, which is really fun to see. It makes me rather excited to see what happens in EW Asia next!

Let's take a look at the Top 8.

Deck Name Placing Player Name
Affinity Stompy 1st Tommaso Ciampolini
Eldrazi 2nd Clement Rieutort
Cephalid Breakfast 3rd Niccolo Olivieri
Orzhov Energy 4th Lemure90
Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) 5th AleM160
Dimir Tempo 6th Eyalzuck28
Dimir Tempo 7th Samuele Dagani
The EPIC Storm 8th Yoniariel

Dimir Tempo did very well here, as did a few combo builds and also Beans. However, the event was won by Tommaso Ciampolini on Affinity Stompy.

This deck really does have some pretty insane games when it fires on all cylinders. Utilizing Pinnacle Emissary's ability to quickly go wide, this deck can deploy a Kappa Cannoneer nearly as quickly as Turn 2, and even more quickly convert that into lethal within a turn or two. It has Saga to fire on that side of things, and Emry to rebuy threats. It's very powerful, and it's no surprise to see people forgetting it exists.

In Second Place, we had Eldrazi Aggro.

Loading Indicator

This is a very straightforward list. I do want to make one minor correction to something I said a few weeks back. I completely blanked on the fact that you can use Cavern of Souls and Secluded Courtyard mana to pay for Kicker costs of Eldrazi like Wastescape Battlemage. Sometimes, I am only human. I do like Eldrazi Obligator though. Being able to maybe steal a Murktide Regent on a lethal turn is pretty sweet.

Legacy Challenge 32 12/3/2025

The first Challenge event of the week was the Wednesday event. This event had 46 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.

You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Izzet Tempo was very popular and it also had a pretty strong win rate. Lands also did very well here, while most everything else rode the middle or just below.

Let's take a look at the Top 8.

Deck Name Placing MTGO Username
Izzet Tempo 1st i_b_TRUE
Paradoxical Outcome 2nd TonyScapone
Omni-Tell 3rd _Babbuja_
Izzet Tempo 4th boytriton
Lands 5th empiricism
Izzet Tempo 6th O_danielakos
Izzet Tempo 7th TeaW1thRum
Sneak and Show 8th JPA93

Lot of Izzet in this Top 8, and in fact it won the event.

Loading Indicator

This deck does have quite a lot of power to it. I like a lot of the sideboard options here as the wide array of silver bullet options is very good. Price of Progress in general seems very powerful at the moment.

In Second Place we had PO.

Loading Indicator

Oh man, getting to PO The One Ring really does feel like cheating. This looks like a Vintage deck, not a Legacy deck!

Legacy Challenge 32 12/5/2025

The second Challenge event of the week was the Friday event. This event had 43 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.

You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Both Izzet and Oops were tied for most played, but Izzet had a good win rate and Oops' was just below 50%. Omni-Tell looked very good, as did Saga Storm.

Let's take a look at the Top 8.

Deck Name Placing MTGO Username
Dimir Tempo 1st felix619
Omni-Tell 2nd FynnOfBlood
Saga Storm 3rd therf
Izzet Tempo 4th _INF_
Eldrazi 5th qtaro
Affinity Stompy 6th Chris_McNasty
Rakdos Reanimator 7th GoblinK1ng
ANT 8th Vash963

Pretty varied Top 8. At the end of the event it was Dimir Tempo that won.

Loading Indicator

It is wild to see Hymn to Tourach in Legacy once more after it had a solid showing at Eternal Weekend Europe. What's amazing about it this time is that there's just simply not that many things like Uro that you worry about discarding.

In Second Place we had Omni-Tell.

Loading Indicator

Yggradsil is a sweet card. Being able to turn even just a threat in the yard into an on-board threat is very good, but also you can keep exiling if you set it up with something like a Brainstorm.

Legacy Challenge 32 12/6/2025

The third Challenge event of the week was the Saturday event. This event had 54 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.

You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Dimir and Omni-Tell were the most played, and both had Top 8 appearances but Omni's overall was lower than 50%. Doomsday and Lands both did very well.

Let's take a look at the Top 8.

Deck Name Placing MTGO Username
Doomsday 1st m_himukai
Sneak and Show 2nd snoopy-magic
Omni-Tell 3rd Zodiacek
Dimir Tempo 4th grindstone-cowboy
Lands 5th samus_ssp
Mystic Forge Combo 6th kanican
Grixis Control 7th Ark4n
Beanstalk Control (Yorion) 8th RIDDLE0423

Another pretty varied Top 8. At the end of the event, it was Doomsday that won.

Loading Indicator

I have to imagine that Tempo Doomsday definitely remains a thing for as long as Tamiyo is legal. It's definitely very good.

In Second Place, we had Sneak and Show.

Loading Indicator

There isn't much going on here that isn't stock in some way, and realistically, there doesn't need to be any frills on one of the format's most traditionally consistent combo decks.

Legacy Challenge 32 12/7/2025 - 1

The fourth Challenge event of the week was the first Sunday event. This event had 40 players in it, thanks to the MTGO website.

You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Dimir Tempo was very played, and its win rate was good, but not as good as Omni-Tell's (albeit with three players). Loam Pox also looked good.

Let's take a look at the Top 8.

Deck Name Placing MTGO Username
Omni-Tell 1st _Batutinha_
Loam Pox 2nd CaptainAfrica
Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) 3rd ScreenwriterNY
Dimir Tempo 4th HJ_Kaiser
Jeskai Control 5th jankyb
Oops! All Spells 6th JacesDisciple
Cradle Control 7th leeties
Mardu Energy 8th Unlif3

Yet another good-looking Top 8. At the end of the event, it was Omni-Tell that won.

Loading Indicator

This is a super clean-looking list that has a lot of oomph behind it. This list isn't getting too fancy with Cunning Wish shenanigans, and I don't think it needs to.

In Second Place, we had Loam Pox.

Loading Indicator

Mai, Scornful Striker is a sweet new addition to this deck. Being able to demolish an opponent when they're casting noncreature spells is pretty solid.

Legacy Challenge 32 12/7/2025 - 2

The final Challenge event of the week was the second Sunday event. This event had 79 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.

You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Dimir Tempo was heavily played, but its overall win rate wasn't very good. Cradle Control, Lands, and Eldrazi all looked good.

Let's take a look at the Top 8.

Deck Name Placing MTGO Username
Death and Taxes - BW (Yorion) 1st IsolatedSystem
Oops! All Spells 2nd HyuugaHeir
Eldrazi 3rd kusinaiga
Loam Pox 4th Reeplcheep
Lands 5th FrankHolmquist
Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) 6th M_4
Cradle Control 7th grymn
Doomsday 8th Enrichetta

I am kinda loving these Top 8s. At the end of the event, it was D&T that won.

Loading Indicator

Meteor Sword is definitely a card that I continue to believe will see long-term play in this shell as long as it is legal. Being able to blink this card with Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd is pretty gross, since you can destroy any permanent with it.

In Second Place we had Oops.

Loading Indicator

The sideboard juke of becoming a fast aggro deck is pretty crazy. Even just ritualing out a Barrowgoyf or Rotting Regisaur can certainly swing the game in your favor.
