A while ago we looked at the best creature from every year of Magic: the Gathering. Today we're going the other direction by looking at the best instant or sorcery spell from every single year of the game! In many ways the evolution of spells in Magic is the exact opposite of creatures - in the earliest days of Magic spells were incredibly overpowered, in fact many of the best spells in the game today were printed back in the early 90's, 30 years ago, but as the game aged the design of Magic cards started to change, with spells becoming overshadowed by power-creeping, snowbally creatures. Here's the story and history of spells and Magic, by looking at the best spell from each year of the game!
