Single Scoop: Vivien's Feral Forces


With Ikoria now having been out for a bit, I'm determined to load a deck up with Viviens along with her cat and beast-like friends so let's get those engines purr-ing.

Gameplan

The deck pilots somewhat like a Selesnya Stompy deck but since we have a Kaheera, the Orphanguard, we can't put cards like Stonecoil Serpent in the maindeck. Instead, we rely on a ton of other cheap creatures like Arboreal Grazer, Charmed Stray, and Bronzehide Lion.

With all of our early drop cats and beasts, this allows us to follow up with a mutated Gemrazer and potentially more. After curving out early, we want to normally sit on cards like Questing Beast to follow up a board wipe as we don't have a ton of ways to draw cards. We also are packing cards like Shifting Ceratops as I feel like that card is insanely important in a meta where Agent of Treachery is dominant. It's also nice that it doesn't get bounced by a Teferi, Time Raveler. And while we're at it, Kaheera gives us vigilance so I thought I'd try to be extra cute and throw Frondland Felidar into the deck to remove blockers and add to our beast count!

Outside of our obvious beast and cat threat package, we've got a ton of Vivien planeswalkers!

That's right! I am playing with Vivien, Champion of the Wilds from War of the Spark as I really like her design but on top of that, she allows for us to dig for more threats. Vivien, Arkbow Ranger is our way for making our small threats into bigger ones with trample in the event we get paired against any Rakdos sacrifice decks. It's also nice that she serves as a form of removal for us and can give us access to a wish board in best of one which is extremely relevant. Vivien, Monsters'  Advocate is here to generate a ton of threats while also allowing us to dig towards more threats. But lastly, Vivien, Nature''s Avenger .... is here because I just wanted more Viviens in the deck. She's from the planeswalker decks but she also pumps and her -1 can have applications but in all honesty, six mana for what she does isn't great unless you're trying to make a Vivien tribal deck.

Conclusion

The deck isn't really meant to be anything more than just a fun time because I like Vivien and cats. Most of this deck was just because I loved Vivien in the trailer of Ikoria and her ability to shoot a spectral tiger from her bow is sweet. As for matchups, our worst match up has to be the Rakdos cat deck as Priest of Forgotten Gods is a house against us. The fact they can steal our creatures and sac them is even worse. Otherwise, I feel like our Yorion pile matchups are decent as we can get explosive starts where a sweeper just won't save them as we can follow up with a Questing Beast or Shifting Ceratops

Only bummer for me was the fact that I didn't actually get to draw any of the higher CMC Viviens but with the results that we got, I'm pretty happy!
