Single Scoop: Sorin's Lot (Historic, Magic Arena)

We're continuing the Halloween trend for October and making Halloween themed decks! This week we're doing a tribe that is hasn't seen the light of day for awhile since they've rotated out of standard ..... that's right! Vampires! We're splashing Red this week so we can try some new pet cards like Zagras, Thief of Heartbeats. I think the card is sweet! I don't think it actually is worth messing with our mana ... but it's a pet card so let's go! Oh, and we've also got Vengeant Vampire which I think is quite an awful card but since it looks exactly like me, I figured I'd include one here.

Gameplan

The deck gets most of its explosive and aggressive starts from Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord which will help us cheat our clunky vampires into play a few turns earlier!

Of the vampires shown above, Champion of Dusk is the only one I would say is confirmed good. Zagras could be sweet and maybe the deck has more reasons for splashing red in a best of three format as we get more use out of the red mana. I did add a sideboard as a sample sideboard just in case we wanted to try it in Bo3. As mentioned above, Vengeant Vampire is nothing more than a meme because the card looks so much like me that I had to include it.

Otherwise, the deck is focused on curving out like most aggro decks. I would highly recommend looking for Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord in opening hands as I feel that Sorin is the backbone of the deck. It pumps all of our team while also giving us ways to cheat in big threats. For awhile, I was playing Silversmote Ghoul to combo wombo with Sorin but I just chose to drop those for some of the sweeter Zendikar Rising cards like Nighthawk Scavenger. Between the Scavenger,Agadeem's Awakening, and Bloodchief's Thirst, vampires definitely got some fun inclusions.

Conclusion

The deck got more wins than losses in the video but just barely as we went 4-3. However, I think that's mostly from us including vampires that were a little too clunky. I do think the combination of Nighthawk Scavenger and connecting while controlling Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose is a sweet and has potential. I feel the tribe has power but isn't doing anything broken like Goblins. The deck also struggles with the 4C Omnath decks but I feel like that's pretty much every deck in Historic right now. If you're a vampire fan, I'd recommend just playing the Orzhov version but with Scavenger and Vito! Also, here's to hoping Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet gets added in one of the historic remastered sets.

Thanks for watching! Time to crawl back into my coffin. See all of you at the next one!
