Single Scoop: Fire Walk With Me (Standard, Magic Arena)
As we continue with the movie and TV references, this week we're referencing the Twin Peaks movie "Fire Walk With Me" as that will lead us to our standard burn deck. That's right!!! We're not your typical burn deck though. We are relying on Irencrag Feat and Fiery Emancipation.
Gameplan
We're really a midrange deck as we rely on tons of big clunky red creatures. Because of that, the burst in mana that we get from Irencrag Feat is huge in our matches!
Irencrag Feat gives us the option to play Fiery Emancipation on turn four! This is the main source of our damage and is hilarious when combined with cards like Roiling Vortex or any of our other burn spells. The nice thing about Irencrag Feat is we can also go right into a Leyline Tyrant to store the additional mana left over from Irencrag Feat. In best of one, this is a deck that could steal some games due to most people not expecting it and that's precisely why I love this in bo1 queues as the meme is hilarious when it works. We also have an Ox of Agonas to make use of our graveyard when we're paired up against a mill deck.
We've also got another cute interaction with Roiling Vortex to shut down any lifegain. With Torbran, Thane of Red Fell, we can make it so our opponent's take three while we only take one which is always a good time. Torbran is also just good on it's own when our deck is loaded with red cards!
Gadrak, the Crown-Scourge is another card that helps us try to ramp when we don't have any Irencrag Feat. With all of our burn spells, we're hoping to get a few treasures while holding up a big blocker. This card is something I'm just trying but could easily be swapped out for more burn spells.
Conclusion
The deck was lucky to get five wins and at the time of recording, Four Color Omnath decks were everywhere but now that Omnath is taking an Om-Nap, the meta is free to try silly things again. I'll try to see if I can cheese people out of some victories on the Bo1 ladder with this deck on stream but I don't think this is a tier deck. Mostly a fun idea that my inner greedy magic player wanted to try. I love Roiling Vortex so naturally, I had to try to force it!
