Single Scoop: Face Control (Historic, Magic Arena)

It wasn't that long ago where Gruul was the best aggro deck Historic Bo1 could offer. A few things have happened like Goblins getting a huge power boost and new combos have hit the meta. However, Burning-Tree Emissary has been unbanned which could give our face-smashing guild a chance to poke its head back in the meta! I know that the deck does try to be as fast as possible with a bunch of haste creatures that immediately hit our opponents in the face but I'd like to see if we can squeeze in Kazandu Mammoth which could help as I have seen Gruul decks flood out. I've also added cards like Shatterskull Smashing and Turntimber Symbiosis.

Gameplan

The gameplan is really simple. We play a creature and it has haste. We SMASH FACE.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

Luckily, a majority of our deck does the same thing which is to attack immediately. With Burning-Tree Emissary, we could have some explosive turns that could lead to a turn three Embercleave. Ontop of a good cleave, we've got more cards that can help us win the midgame like Glorybringer! Ontop of our favorite dragon, we have a plan for "flooding" which is to sink all of our mana into our new MDFCs.

Conclusion

Burning-Tree Emissary is definitely an amazing Magic card and definitely boosted Gruul's power level. Is Gruul better than Goblins? Nope. I still think that Goblins are just too well oiled of a machine. However, the deck is still tier 1.5 when it comes to aggro. I was trying the new ZNR cards and maybe that hurt our health a bit or slowed us down a tad bit but I can say that BTE is good enough to boost this archetype. The deck has explosive early turns that most decks just can't keep up with and that is amazing when it comes to the best of one queues!

I would also take a second to mention that I've seen everyone's submitted decklists and I'm going over a few of them for episodes! Thank you so much for submitting and if I pick your deck, you should hear back from me in a week or so! Also, thank you to everyone watching. It's always an honor to make content for everyone. See ya at the next one!
