Gameplan

Humans have always been able to get disruption backed by an aggressive clock. Normally, human decks are just Orzhov or Selesnya but I'm adding blue because I think the best of one ladder still has tons of combo decks that are light on interaction so having a card like Meddling Mage has to be good enough to attack the ladder.

I'm also excited to try out a few new humans in historic. We've got Intrepid AdversaryBrutal Cathar

$ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00 $ 0.00

Intrepid Adversary just seems great at all points of the game and can pump all of our creatures regardless of type and that's exactly what I want to see. Of course, it's also just fine as a 3/1 lifelinker to apply pressure. In Best of one, there's a lot of aggression and its nice to run something that interacts. The issue is those spells don't further our board state. An example would be Dire Tactics but with Brutal Cathar we have a threat that is on tribe and a way to buy us the time needed to push forward. On top of that, the night and day mechanic can turn this card into a big body later on!

Conclusion

Humans aren't at the level of power as they are in modern but that's to be expected. However, humans in historic is growing deeper in card pool and is becoming its own thing in historic and you love to see it. I'd love to see Aether Vial in an upcoming Historic Anthology but for right now the deck has aggressive starts but isn't like Mono White. It does make up for that by being able to disrupt our opponents way more. The use of Meddling Mage was perfect. With Tibalt's Trickery banned and out of the format, there are definitely still uses for Meddling Mage but it's still perfectly fine just being an Orzhov humans deck until a new combo comes out.
