Single Scoop: Drakuseth Reborn
Drakuseth, Maw of Flames is easily one of the coolest dragons and has been one of my favorite reanimator targets as Bond of Revival gives it haste. Let us see if the Grixis Reanimator deck has legs to stand on in the new Bo1 Meta!
Gameplan
Its quite simple, we just need to load our graveyard up with our numerous threats. We have a ton of singleton utility threats as a way to deal with problematic boards. First off, here are our reanimation spells:
We have a total of 5 ways to bring back our bombs. We also put a Connive // Concoct in the sideboard as a way for us to grab a reanimation spell with Fae of Wishes.
Our Targets
Drakuseth, Maw of Flames is the perfect card when paired with haste as it can be a board wipe while leaving us with a 7/7 flying dragon but let's say we're worried about more problematic permanents or just want to make it so our opponents don't ever gain their footing? We bring back Agent of Treachery to steal their best permanent or mess with their mana and we're okay with it dying as we could bring it back. Scholar of the Ages is here for us to buy back our reanimation spells or maybe sweepers to help us stabilize and keep going. These aren't the only targets as we do play Torgaar, Famine Incarnate as a way to heal ourselves or set our opponents to ten health so we can be extra cute and use Hidetsugu's Second Rite.
What Did Theros Bring?
It's nice to have a 4/4 Lifelink body in best of one that can tutor out a target for us to reanimate. The reduction on spells from the graveyard is mostly irrelevant for us so it's more of just a way to Entomb and have a body that can give us the life for an extra turn! Ox of Agonas is a card I'm not entirely sure of yet but I definitely want to try it. It's weird as it eats up a ton of our graveyard but it also helps us throw any bombs we have in hand away. We also have Ashiok, Sculptor of Fears which seems like a sweet singleton as we get a Thought Scour and a -5 that can pull a creature from either player's graveyard which will be extremely sweet.
As you can expect, Fae of Wishes is great as it gives us access to a sideboard so we can pull silver bullets for whatever situation. The best part is that we can use it's activated ability to throw away cards in our hand.
Conclusion
Right now, I haven't seen too much graveyard hate outside of a few people running Ashiok, Dream Render in the main deck. Even with all the escape cards, not many people play maindeck graveyard hate and are more so focused on smashing face with decks like Gruul and Mono white so in BO1, we can get away with decks like reanimator. We just need to respect aggro decks so I like the number of sweepers we have but I could totally see us increasing our spot removal package.
Here's a slightly updated list. I still think it's funny to keep a single copy of Hidetsugu's Second Rite in the sideboard just to get people but that can be a flex spot in your sideboard so don't worry about keeping it in. I also added another Tomebound Lich as I find the 1/3 deathtouch and lifeline body to be great in Bo1. If you want, you can throw a singleton Ashiok, Dream Render into the main so you can hate out opposing graveyards while also targeting yourself with the -1 to fill your yard!
As always, thanks for watching! See ya at the next one.
